Santa Ana winds take no prisoners!

Last week we returned home from work to find that our patio tabletop had smashed into a thousand pieces. The umbrella pole evidently slammed into the table so hard that it shattered the glass. Thank goodness it was tempered glass and it fell into a huge pile right under the table and the umbrella was lying only a few feet away. The likelihood of finding an oval piece of replacement glass in the winter is not good so we'll wait until spring to decide what to do. We've had wind gusts as high as 50 mph around SoCal in the past two weeks and one must have blown right through our patio to take out that 4x6' piece of glass and launch the umbrella. We're in a corridor for the wind that blows down the Santa Ana Canyon from the desert; usually Santa Ana winds are warm and balmy but they can get cold and brutal... I remember many Christmases when it was in the 80's or even 90's because of those warm winds -- not very Christmas-like, unless you live in SoCal -- good for surfing, not for skiing or snowboarding...
